Choreography is a process that connects our body with our conscious and subconscious via movement. We conjure up a magical world where we “live” and can move through. How to build that? How do we find the river that flows deep in us?
This workshop explores different ways of connecting our body and mind using components of choreography through guided exercises. We will work on approaches to improvisation, which helps generate original material and challenges our movement habits. We will then play with choreographic structure to discover various ways of putting a dance together. Designed for dancers and choreographers of all levels, the workshop concludes with an informal showing for people who wish to share their discoveries.
This workshop is free of charge with support from a City of Berkeley Civic Arts Grant and support from Shawl-Anderson Dance Center.

Class description:
The Community Wellness Dance Class is designed for all fitness levels; no prior dance training is required. In this supportive environment, you can feel free to be yourself, connect with others, improve your overall well-being and have fun!
In this class, we’ll start with breathing and wellness movement exercises, such as tapping, level-arm swinging, and light stretching to warm and loosen up your body. We’ll work on balance and strengthening. Then we learn rhythmic movements which are later integrated into an easy-to-follow choreographed routine. Come groove with me! Come experience the wonderful sensation of moving to music! It’s FUN!
